Conference Call Number: 712-432-3000

Bridge Number: 261644
[no longer active]

Good evening and welcome everyone! This is our eleventh Awaken the Sleeping Giant conference call. Our next conference calls will be on Wednesday, March 8 and Thursday, March 9, 2006.

In order to establish unity and oneness in spirit, let us begin by speaking out our names and cities in unison. On the count of three, please speak out your name and city three times: One, two, three…

Thank you.

Opening Prayer

Dearest Heavenly Father, because we came from you, we know that at our deepest level of living we are like you. The greater the challenges in life, the greater the realization we can perceive when we persevere and overcome any obstacle that lies between our outer nature and our inner divine, light-suffused nature.

When we are aware of the often hidden light that we are, knowing that we come from the author of all light and life, we see life as we were intended to see it. What is more, we begin to live life as it was intended to be lived. When Jesus referred to being one with you, it is this precisely that that he was talking about; you as light within him, and he within your light, seeking to give divine truth and light to the world.

Tonight, Heavenly Father, help us to enter fully into the light that you are in us and the light that we are because we came from you. Endow us with pure hearts and pure love to know exactly how to dispel all darkness in and around us and make this a world where your light shines supreme. In turn, may we awaken the sleeping giant of light within us and the whole world.

I ask and pray this Heavenly Father, in the name of the all-light Christ Spirit. Amen.

I want to truly thank each one of you for your kindness in supporting this effort of praying for America. It is most touching how dedicated each one of you is. I am greatly honored to be a part of your lives and to participate with you in this great spiritual endeavor. Thank you so much.

And now to some of your letters... keep them coming, and visit our blog site and post your words...your letters are the life-blood for Awakening the Sleeping Giant!

Thanks so much, Philip. Yes, I have an ongoing desire to be so much more aware of what is than I feel I am. But I try to maintain hope that even though I can't really see or feel results of prayer and the various practices that I try to do that much, still something positive is happening.

I definitely do feel something in my heart and crown chakra when praying this prayer, and it certainly taps into my longing to feel like there's something I can do to help this country and help the world. I do want to "wake up" to what is. Thanks for all you are doing. I can see the effort and sincerity you put into this and it's much appreciated.

With love,

Victoria C., Washington State

The next one I am not reading in full but will post on our website in full for everyone’s information.

Dear Philip,

Thank you for sending the content of the last call. You mention the movies at Blockbuster, and I had exactly the same experience, walking from one section to another and saying to myself how hard it is to find a movie that is worth watching. But... there is an alternative: Go to www.spiritualcinemacircle.com.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. I was going to put it on the blog for others to see but don't know what category it would fit in.

Love and blessings to you,

Doris
Dear Philip,

You must get tons of letters! I don't know how you keep up. It’s wonderful to hear from you anytime. What I'm learning is that prayer is so very healing and connecting for me as I pray. This has been such a rare and wonderful experience.

Blessings to you!

P.S. Regarding the movies, March of the Penguins is WONDERFUL! :)

Kirsten

There is another longer letter from Kirsten posted on the website. Be sure and catch it, for I believe it’s a letter that is every man’s and every woman’s letter.

Dear Philip,

The story of George Washington's vision was new. I will ponder it in my heart. This week, there have been two other e-mails from other groups urging prayer for the United States of America. The call is urgent and spreading in a deliberate way across the networks. Thank you for helping us become a voice for peace. We stand united in our vision and our invocation.

Carol B.

Thank you so much, Philip, for sharing this week's conference calls. Unfortunately, I missed them, but the transcript is wonderful to have. The vision of George Washington was especially powerful.

Again, I applaud you for the excellent work you are doing, and so very timely for America. I am honored to be a part of this—if only, mostly, in spirit.

Diana R.

Greetings Philip Burley! Thank you so much for coordinating this Awakening. It is truly wonderful mission. Years ago, before I became more in tune, I would run to the top of a mountain overlooking San Jose and would imagine blessings and good will to everyone in our Silicon Valley. So, to see you actively create a site for everyone to share is truly wonderful.

Since I live in the greater San Jose area, and San Jose has now surpassed San Francisco in population, may I suggest for you to include San Jose on the list? It has a different climate, different landscape, and different types of people who are attracted here to the South Bay area. San Jose is currently number11, after the top 10 largest populations of cities in the country. It is the second largest city in California. Silicon Valley is San Jose, and knowing that many here are involved in high-tech, biotech, military, and other industries, I thought it would be ideal for us to include this town. The South Bay and the entire Bay Area tends to be politically progressive, which is a positive thing. However, I have other concerns that encourage me to write to you.

Thank you for your consideration and most of all your love! Best,

Elizabeth
Dear Philip,

I have prayed for three months and will continue to be a peace prayer. Your conference talks are always inspiring. I have seen your TV show and enjoyed listening to it. I feel proud of ourselves and remain to be a member of your spiritual family.

Much love,

Yoko N., Fukushima, Japan

Opening Talk—Let Your Light Shine

If your body were to die this moment, where would "you" be? You would be where your mind would place you. In other words, you would go to an existence in a place—within the grand scheme of things in the world of spirit—centered on your thoughts, which have come to comprise your conscious or unconscious beliefs.

It is vitally important to think about where you would be when you leave this earth plane. Why? Because the secret to finding and awakening the sleeping giant in all of us lies in seeing life as it is and not as we think or imagine it to be. Catching a clear vision of yourself, apart from being on earth, can bring about a quick awakening—a clear and more accurate perspective—of just who and what you are.

Think with me for a few moments: If you take away your body, who are you? If you no longer have to live inside of a physical body, who or what would you be? First, you would discover quite quickly that you are not your body. You would find that you are the essence of life in your physical body that makes living on earth possible. You are like a person in an old-fashioned diving suit. You move about beneath the water while your oxygen supply is coming through tubes running to your diving suit from above the water. Then, when you come up out of the water, you take off the diving apparatus and go on about your business without it. This illustration serves well to make the point that we are in a body but we are not the body. We are the eternal spirit who takes residence temporarily in an earthly body giving it life, through our spirit that is connected directly to the eternal source of all life.

You Are Not Your Body, but a Spiritual Being

Do you ever think about how much time and concentration of energy is spent each day upon your physical existence, your body being the center of it all? This reality often causes us to identify more, if not almost exclusively, with our physical body. It is a mistaken identity. It is like treating the glove as primary and the hand within the glove as secondary or focusing upon the glove and completely ignoring the hand inside!

In scripture, Jesus said:

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.1

In this verse, Jesus was speaking of places or realms within the spirit world. It further implies that according to a multitude of beliefs and belief systems on earth—which is another way of saying due to a collection of thoughts held as true during our lifetime on earth—we go to the other side to that place which reflects our truth or beliefs. Therefore, there are many places in the afterlife where people of the same or similar beliefs gather, by the reality of the spiritual science of "like attracts like" or in a more homely way of speaking, "birds of a feather flock together." Did you ever see humming birds flying with seagulls at the ocean? Or did you ever see wolves and sheep grazing together peacefully in a field? Those images are so unlikely that they may bring a smile to your face as you think of them. Thus, in the spirit world, like-minded people with similar belief systems are inevitably drawn together. We might say that the spiritually most enlightened would not be mixed in with the lesser enlightened, and the completely spiritually ignorant would probably not even know about higher spiritual levels, if they knew of spirit at all in their mentally darkened state.

1Mark 12:41-44, Website Link

You are Light Radiating from the Source of all Light

Once you step away from this mortal body, you no longer need to physically exercise, sleep, eat, bathe, buy clothing, comb your hair, put on makeup, brush your teeth, go to work, drive a car, buy gas, shop for groceries, pay bills, mow the lawn, clean the house, wash dishes, answer the telephone, pray, go to church, temple, or mosque or any of the thousand and one other things we do on earth.

At the highest levels, the world of spirit is in no need of further embellishment. It is the epitome of perfection at its best. It is the realm created by and reserved for those who really "got it" on earth; those who lived correctly, according to highest truth; those who got their priorities right; and those who loved themselves and others unconditionally, and often sacrificially.

In the highest realms, there is really no need for celebrating life or worshiping God in the ways that we might on earth, as life and God are celebrated through living in pure love and basking in the obvious presence of the author of life at all times as a natural part of existence. God is no longer something or someone separate from you or needing to be reached by religious service or observation. True religion is love, and to love purely in action is to worship both God and others. This is so in the supreme realms of the spirit world.

To amplify this point, if you have lived the highest truth, you will have discovered, not by faith or belief alone, but by direct experience, that you are not this body, and you are not your thoughts and feelings. What is more, the real you (with a capital "Y") is the light radiating from the source of all light and through your earthly existence, including your physical body. Within this reality of your true self as an ever- shining, ever-expanding light, exists the potential for gigantic, eternal proportions of awareness and achievement. It is the literal realization of this inner Self that brings about our ultimate transformation from thinking, feeling, and acting as a limited being to living as an unlimited and eternal being of light.

You Came from Eternal Life, Have Eternal Life, and
Exist Forever in Eternal Light

The highest truth is that you came from eternal life, you have eternal life, and you exist forever in eternal light. This truth has little or nothing to do with religion or theology. It drives home the point that you did not come to earth to inherit or earn eternal life. Such an idea is a great misinterpretation of scripture as well as a mistaken teaching. Rather, you came from the creator of eternal life itself already endowed with the reality of eternal life. Whenever anyone dies, they find themselves unwittingly having made transition into a multi-dimensional world—the spirit world. All the denial of this fact and all the erroneous teachings in the world to the contrary cannot stop the unfolding reality met by each spirit who passes from the earth plane. This happens to all, if not at first, at least with a passage of time as the departed spirit detaches from the earth plane.

Let us be aware that the reality of being living, eternal light pertains to every human being, past, present, and future. The spirit world is arrayed from the darkest existence to the brightest, depending upon the exact degree to which each one awakens to his or her real self while still on earth. Let me put it this way: We came to earth from the source of all light to learn and grow, to uncover the light that we are; and one day we are to return to the light from which we came.

Our beliefs bear greatly upon the percentage of the light that we are that we can uncover in a lifetime. If you think you are a terrible person, and that there is little to no hope of things being different, you will live accordingly, and you will have little if any chance to see your real self, which is made of light. Your lack of experiencing and knowing your own inner, true self imprisons you behind the bars of ignorance and half-truths. On the other hand, if you believe that you are not this body but a being of light made in the magnificent image and likeness of God, and you live accordingly, you can’t help but reveal to yourself, in time, your light being, dwelling in the very existence of God while you are right here on earth. Jesus wanted so badly to reveal this central truth when he walked the earth in his physical body.

If one awakens to themselves as light, radiating from the source of all light, that person can no longer live in darkness, not even with a shadow of darkness. Never again can they hurt another or even think of hurting another. To such a person, hurting another, including self, is an anathema—abhorrent and unthinkable. It is only when we reach this level of perception that we can live joyfully and freely. And it is the destiny of each one of us to reach this supreme awareness and experience.

Know the Difference between the Light That You Are and the
External Role You Came to Play on Earth

And so, dear ones, we come to the conclusion of my talk: Awaken to the reality of just who you are and who you were before you were born on earth. You came to earth with the potential of becoming an awakened, divine, spiritual giant, and you are an eternal being made of an ever-shining, brilliant light. In you is no darkness—not one speck, not one infinitesimal speck. You are more than just a brilliant, blinding, white light of energy; your emanation is suffused with supreme intelligence, eternally abundant creativity, and a pure love that is beyond measure. You may not know it, but you are God come to earth.2

The external earthly role you came to play and the script you are acting out in the drama of life covers up the fact of your divine nature. The factory worker, the homemaker, and the child at play in the sand may all find their hands dirty at the end of a day, but that is just the reality of this world. Underneath the dirt, the hands are not dirty. They are as clean as the day you were born. And beneath the careworn heart and in the troubled mind there is peace, hidden by the thought of being worn out and lost; but it is not so.

Only the character whose name we were given at birth takes on the joys and sorrows of life. Once that character steps off the stage of life, takes off makeup and costume, and comes back to real self, he finds that he is not the role he just played on stage. He is completely free of that, so long as he does not confuse his life script—the role he played in this lifetime—with his true reality.

For what reason does all this happen? Why would we purposely, knowledgably subject ourselves to being a character and playing a role in which we suffer, often in doubt and despair, intermingled now and again with peace and happiness? Why? Who would choose such an existence on purpose? Only one who knows that in the end it is all for the best and that supreme good will come out of it.

Why does anyone climb mountains, run races, or tackle a complex jigsaw puzzle? We do it for the sport of it. It is the adventure and challenge by which the soul learns of itself and comes into its own. It is a universal fact that we all learn the most in hard times, not easy times. In reality, we come to know our strengths and weakness, our humanity and our divinity, through the challenges of life.

Trees that become the strongest are those most buffeted by wind, sleet, rain, and snow. It is a fact that what does not kill you will make you stronger. Both trees and human beings are proof of this phenomenon.

2John 10:34: Jesus said, "Ye are gods."

You Are the Light of the World

Why does anyone take on an acting role in movies or in the theater? Beyond the need to make an income, actors will tell us that they do so for the challenge and because they want to experience such and such a character, by bringing it to life and making it believable. They want to mesmerize and entertain the audience who themselves come to unconsciously believe what they are seeing in the portrayal of a character on stage or in a movie; so much so that they are moved to tears, worry, or fear. For the moment, they have suspended being in touch with true reality, and they have entered into the play as real. How otherwise do we explain laughing or crying with what is only a two dimensional image on a movie screen?

Now, as we seek to Awaken the Sleeping Giant in America within ourselves first, let us be aware that we are ever-present light shining within the role we are playing. Let us be sure to dwell primarily on this light and not upon our temporal body and earthly role first. To look to the light that we are is to focus upon our essential strength and not our weakness. To do this is to have infinite compassion and patience with our inclination to error. Is it not true that we so often learn more from our mistakes than by getting things exactly right? Besides, whatever you do, whether it is praying the Awaken the Sleeping Giant prayer or washing the dishes, shoveling snow or serving someone, it is the intention and heart that you bring to the experience that lifts it to a holy and divine level; not the action itself. Jesus illustrated this very wisely when he compared what the widow gave to what others gave who had much.3

Move ever inward, closer to your precious, divine self, through prayer and meditation. All the great spiritual masters have told us that we are divine. Even Jesus said that we could do greater things than he did when he said:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do... .4

By what means is this so? It is so because we come from the same light as Jesus, and we are made of the same light as he was. He knew it experientially, but many of us have yet to experience it. May we each come quickly into this realization, so that we can be all that we can be. May we contribute to the world the light that we are to make a difference bigger than we expected, and to make this a better and brighter America and world. Stand in the light that you are. Be the light that you are. Shine forth from the light that you are. Consciously bring your light into the world, and join the ranks of the very few who found heaven on earth and did not have to wait until they died.

Jesus was quite literal and serious when he spoke the following words:

You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lamp stand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.5

To these words, I would add for all of us, "Go and do likewise."
